Strength in Collaboration: Our Partnership with DASA

Updates

Every person with limb difference deserves care that truly listens – care that’s built around their comfort, their goals, and their voice. At Radii Devices, we believe technology can be harnessed to support that kind of care. We look to create tools that make it easier for patients to share how they’re feeling, and for clinicians to respond with insight, empathy, and precision.

That vision was shared by our partners at the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA). In 2022, Radii received funding from DASA through their “Veterans’ Health Innovation Fund” competition, supported by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs. As a direct result of their support, Radii were able to explore new areas of innovation – most notably a prototype for a prosthetic comfort monitoring app, riiPort.

Enhancing Patient-Clinician Communication

riiPort is a digital application designed to help veterans and other limb wearers log key details about their prosthetic socket – from comfort levels to activity and fit. The app helps ensure these insights aren’t lost between appointments, offering clinicians a clearer picture of their patients’ needs.

As part of our broader digital fitting ecosystem, riiPort complements our core clinical tool, riiForm – a software platform that supports prosthetists in making data-led decisions around socket design and fit. Together, these tools could improve socket comfort and overall patient experience, without increasing clinical workload.

Why Collaboration Matters

The development of these tools has been shaped by ongoing conversations with prosthetists, veterans, physiotherapists, and partners like DASA. Their input has helped us create software that doesn’t just gather data – it translates it into meaningful, clinical insights.

“We’ve welcomed collaboration with partners like DASA since day one,” says our CEO, Dr Joshua Steer. “These partnerships are essential – they help us build technology that connects, rather than replaces, and ensures patients are truly heard.”

Looking Ahead

While riiPort is still in development, early trials demonstrated the value of digital tools for patients and healthcare professionals alike. And thanks to the model of collaboration we’ve built here in the UK, we’re now applying this approach elsewhere – including in our ongoing work with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where riiForm is supporting prosthetic care for veteran patients.

Working across sectors and borders helps us ensure our assistive technology tools reflect real-world needs – from clinical decision-making to socket comfort.

This work is only possible thanks to collaborative support from organisations like the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), the Office of Veterans Affairs, and BLEMSA – the limbless veterans charity. Together, we’re working to improve outcomes for people with limb difference around the world.
